Inviting the public to “Walk Back into History,” Virginia N. Sherry unveiled a website featuring 230 color photographs of historic homes and other buildings in 17 Staten Island neighborhoods. The website is organized chronologically, beginning with descriptions of surviving historic treasures built in the late 1600s, followed by architecture from the 1700s, 1800s and early 1900s.
Some -- but not all -- of the featured buildings are officially designated New York City landmarks.
The project was supported in part with a 2017 DCA Premier Grant from Staten Island Arts with public funding from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
